The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the reinstatement of five previously delisted academic programs in the College of Management Sciences (COLMAS) at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU).
The MOUAU College of Management Sciences approved programs include:
- BSc. Accounting
- BSc. Marketing
- BSc. Banking and Finance
- BSc. Business Administration
- BSc. Economics
In an official letter addressed to the Vice-Chancellor of MOUAU, Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, CFS, and signed by Abubakar M. Girei, the Acting Director of Academic Planning at the NUC, the Executive Secretary of the Commission granted approval following a comprehensive review. This decision was based on the findings of a team of experts who recently assessed the university’s human and material resources for these programs.
Excerpts of the letter reads, “I am pleased to inform the Vice-Chancellor, that the Executive Secretary has considered and approved the establishment of the full-time mode of study for the following programs to be run in the main campus of the University with effect from the 2024/2025 session”.
It may be recalled that the FG in 2016 directed the University to delist all programs that were not part of their original academic mandate.
Although the school complied immediately then, it continued to argue that those programs were allied to agriculture as they can help farmers to understand management aspects of their harvests.
Kudos must be given to Professor Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe’s administration for this feat, which was a result of his dedication, superior argument, vast network and commitment to the vision of transforming MOUAU to an entrepreneurial agricultural university. “
